Teaching Philosophy
I'm a firm believer in grounded progressivism. By supporting the empowerment of our learners in their discovery learning experience, we frame the future for their life-long learning. In remodelling the 'habitus' or ingrained paths of our past, we must equip them with the ability, awareness and aptitude to assess, adapt and adopt when faced with the cornucopia of life in the 21st century. Yet, the nature of youth requires a balance between freedom and guidance, encouragement and admonition.
Connective Constructivism is my guiding path for in-class decision making.

Teaching Approach.
To encourage students to take risks in their learning experience, I believe in modelling the behaviours and principles I am trying to encourage. By and large my students seem still bound to a traditional Asian learning culture, yet, out there millennials tend to swing between extremes of playing it safe for the 'A' and rebelling against the establishment.
​
By advocating experiential learning with scaffolding in reasoning and mapping but allowing them the freedom in choice and creativity, I hope to cultivate a class of innovators, creators and curators of the best of our past, traditions and heritage for preservation but with the adaptability and flexibility of future needs.

STARRR FRAMEWORK OF REFLECTION
(Situation, Tasks, Action/Activity, Result, Rubric, Reflection)
The STAR formula helps you structure your reflections on experiences:
Situation

Students perform or participate in a performance or production of a Shakespearean play.

They must showcase in-depth critical understanding of the selected work.
Tasks

Adapt the play from its original text into something else while retaining at least 30% of the original material.

Present the adaptation in that new format.
*Their ability to adapt and perform the plays is indicative of the ability to synthesise, create and apply the various skills from the course as well as the program.
